life updates [06 Nov 2009|02:37am] anno_ventesimo 1) quit job, having realized that money, even traces of it, does not make me happy. 2) have become full-time poor person. largest hobbies include saving money on food and signing up for psych studies. 3) actual income comes from cafe. as does dinner! 4) projected actual hobbies include: - finishing the hellboy romance - my partner showed up out of the blue with his next chapter complete! after about 4 months of hiatus, my author-friend has come through!!!!! - creating a demo of plinky, folksy, painfully earnest tunes, and selling myself to the highest bidder. am playing a friend's book launch next week, hopefully this is not a disaster. this hobby might include creating an actual blog. eeeeek. not so certain on that one. - showcasing my dubious keyboard skills and increasingly magnificent harmonizing skills in a new band with people i met once briefly a half-decade ago, and am now hanging out with. feel occasionally terribly fan-girl about it all -- i saw this band play at a bar my friend dj's, and told them they were magnificent, and that if they needed female backup vox, i was their lady. mostly, i was really drunk, and really impressed with them. and mostly, one of them just asked me out, but that wasn't an option, clearly. they are all technically a lot more skilled than i. this means i have to practice. side note - the ringleader is genius, but sometimes appears to think his life ended three years ago and he'll never be happy again. i suspect i am being finagled into becoming the ray of sunshine and optimism to some jaded, depressed, substance-abusing musician. - writing words that aren't trash. though that is a bit trickier to manage. - playing with Bat Mast still, though we haven't gotten our asses in gear about recording a demo. or even getting all of us to show up at one time to practice. if we were smooth socializers, we could get shows with what we have now, but alas. we aren't. i can try, but mostly i get offered dinners, not shows. so, that's a terrible option. it's a pity, because when we're in practice, we've improved immensly and sound pretty damn good. - cleaning my bedroom like an adult. - going to shows for free, and driking cheap cheap beer. 5) have read about a million pages of literature in the last two weeks, (since quitting job mostly). top reads include: east of eden (steinbeck), anathem (neal stephenson), the shadow of the wind (so good i stayed up til 4 am and skipped my work-breaks the next day to read), and the lies of locke lamora (fantasy! yes! from wisconsin!) 6) TWO brothers got engaged. and trevor's brother is having a baby this summer! hello adulthood, everyone! 7) still waiting on immigration. getting nervous. they should have replied by now! am terrified that since i moved my mail got lost. but i did change my address with the gov't. so that really shouldn't be. 8) still living with the boyfriend, etc etc. but we hang out a bit less lately. conflicting schedules. but it's nice - staying side-by-side all the time means neither of us do anything interesting. mostly, we hang out in the middle of the night and on late mornings. 9) attend hipster parties. now that im too bored to care, im cool enough to get invited. yawn. good night! post comment
